The internet has been a basic need for every one of us, and there is probably no field where you do not require the internet. Thanks to the internet, we have been able to enhance and gain knowledge.

Schools also give importance to provide free internet services to their students while they are inside school premises. Providing the best wifi network for their students and staff is the school’s primary concern.

A computer and a good internet connection are compulsions for teachers and students to perform various tasks like their research, assignment, presentation, and many more. Both of them can take references from the internet whenever they have any doubts.

However, with access to the internet, students are getting more freedom. Students whose parents use parental control apps to restrict access to various websites can use the institution’s internet. Students are also using the schools’ internet to bully their peers and do other illegal activities.

Therefore, nowadays, most education institutions are blocking everything on their institution’s wifi. American association of schools has set September 30, 2020, as Banned Websites Awareness Day to encourage schools to ban inappropriate and unproductive websites in schools.

Many schools have started blocking certain websites like social networking sites, gaming sites, adult websites on their school’s computers. In addition, some schools do not allow their students to use their mobile phones inside their school premises.

  • Go to the new line on the Notepad and enter your IP address and Websites’ URL that you want to block.
  • You can go to the new line to add more URL that you want to block.

However, one drawback of this method is that you have to keep entering the URLs of websites you want to block. Since there are trillions of websites, you may not know which one is inappropriate for children. You may even forget to enter some URLs that are inappropriate for them. Therefore, schools’ efforts to block websites using this technique might not be practical.

Ways to Block Websites on the Web Browsers

Since there are many web browsers that students can visit, you do not want them to visit. Thereby to provide an extra level of security, you can block websites at browsers too. Sometimes, even kids can unblock a website from the method mentioned above; therefore, you should block websites on the browser level.

Block Websites on Google Chrome

Here are the steps that you can follow to block websites on Google Chrome:

  • First of all, add the “Block Site” Chrome extension on the school’s PC.
  • You can check if the extension has been added to the PC or not by viewing the extension icon on the top of the window.
  • Now visit each website you want to block and click on the extension icon.

Block Websites on Mozilla Firefox

Here are the steps for blocking websites on Mozilla Firefox:

  • At first, you need to open firefox.
  • Then type “Block Site” on the search bar of the browser.
  • You will be directed to the next page to find extensions to block websites and add the extension.
  • Finally, a confirmation box will appear where you need to click on “Allow this Extension” to confirm the extension.

There are also some parental control apps that you can use to monitor your school’s systems activities. Parental control apps give the most accurate picture of students’ activities. It is also one of the best and the easiest way to block websites. Using such apps, you can block apps, websites, keywords, and many more.
